Three Gray Cakes...

(To the tune of "3 Blind Mice")

Three gray cakes. Three gray cakes.
What will they be? What will they be?
They sit so silently on the shelf,
To be decorated by myself.
Do you wonder what they might become,
These three gray cakes?

Sorry...but you'll have to wait! :)
I'm working on a little Christmas project that I can't wait to share with you!!  But, it's not ready yet!!  Lots of surprises I know, so stay tuned!  If you have any guesses, please share!! :)

On a side note...square cakes take SO much longer to smooth!!!  I haven't done one in a while...let alone three!  Wow!  But, I'm happy with my sweet little cakes!! :)

Hugs to my sweet friends and Happy Holidays!!

  3. Could it be a "soldier" or a nutcracker themed cake? Could it be a mouse themed cake?

  6. My first post to your fabulous blog - and, after having done a couple square cakes in fondant, I have to say I am envious! Extraordinary corners! I consider myself a stickler for detail, but you have me beat, hands down every time...I love your cakes and am excited to see what these beauties will become under your crafting! (on a side note, I also love your love for our Father and how you give Him the glory!)

  7. I should have mentioned that these are dummy cakes. Although, you can still get your cakes like this if you're using ganache!! It works the same way! :)

Thanks for your sweet comments everyone! I can't wait to share with you what they turn into!

  14. Those are some very VERY smooth cakes! I am so impressed and in awe with how you achieve that. Ganache I guess? I need to try that sometime.

    1. These are dummy cakes! But, you can achieve this with ganache that has a firm shell because it acts just like a dummy cake. Thank you for your sweet "green" envy! :) Bless you!

    1. Hi there CheekyMunchCakes! :)

I use a large nail file from the dollar store to sand down any ridges that may have been created when the dummy was made. I then apply a generous layer of crisco to my dummy cakes so it fills in any cracks before putting on my fondant. The foam is nice and smooth before fondant, so it looks nice and smooth after. That's the "trick"! :)

  17. I'm wondering if one of the new surprises is a Craftsy class?? I know you can't tell but I can't wait to see the new projects! Dummy cakes are so much harder to cover and I can't believe you get it so perfect!
